Find a Kit
Some cars, trucks and SUVs can be made flex-fuel simply by installing a conversion kit to run on ethanol blends as well as gasoline, or any mixture of the fuels.
So far, the only such kit approved for use by the Environmental Protection Agency is made by Flex Fuel U.S. The Chicago-based company developed the Flex Box and Flex Box Smart Kit. The systems allow a vehicle to run on all ethanol blends, including E85, E50, E20, E15 and E10 (what most of us put in our tanks already), or E0, pure gasoline.
The kits are compatible with only a small number of U.S. makes of cars: Fords, Lincolns, Dodges and Chryslers. For a full list of models that can use the kits, visit the Flex Fuel U.S. website.
